Lanikai Beach

Located on the windward side of Oahu near Kailua Beach Park, Lanikai Beach is arguably one the most beautiful beaches in the world.

In fact, the word Lanikai translates to "Heavenly Sea" in Hawaiian. One glimpse at the fine white sand, vivid torquoise waters, and the beautiful view of the Mokulua Islands and your family will understand why.

The Mokulua Islands help keep the waters of Lanikai calm creating a tropical swimming pool that is perfect for children to play. The fine white sands make for sandcastle building paradise.

A popular adventure is paddling kayaks to the scenic offshore islands of Mokulua which provide a sanctuary for seabirds.  For guided Kayaking tours or rentals check out the Hawaiian Kayaking Adventure .

Snorkeling is also a popular activity  among the coral heads located in the shallow water just off the beach. The coral is teaming with a variety of marine life.

Opposite of the ocean, you can see an old World War II era lookout post that the family can hike up to for some amazing views of Lanikai Beach. Check out our post on Lanikai Pillboxes for more information.

Panoramic sweep of one of the prettiest beaches in the world. Lanikai Beach is rarely crowded unless there is a holiday.

After passing Kailua Beach Park turn left at the T-intersection and go uphill on Aalapapa Drive which loops back as Mokulua Drive through a residential area. Park where you can on Mokulua Drive and take one of the eight public access paths to the beach. Access and parking is limited by residential properties.
